Rogue Voodoo Doughnut Pretzel, Raspberry & Chocolate Ale

Rogue Voodoo Donut Pretzel Ale

They say the third time’s a charm.  Rogue’s Pretzel, Raspberry & Chocolate ale inspired by Voodoo Doughnut’s Voodoo Doll doughnut might be the home run they’ve been shooting for.

The collaboration between Rogue Ales and Voodoo Donuts has already yielded two very….interesting…beers.  First, they gave us Maple Bacon Donut Ale, which was met with lots of interest and fanfare.  But when this unique brew made it in to the hands (mouths?) of beer enthusiasts, it was met with a very lackluster (or worse) response.  The world just might not have been ready for bacon flavored beer, especially with the syrupy sweetness of the maple on top.  Then Rogue and Voodoo gave us Chocolate, Banana, & Peanut Butter Ale. While better received than the Bacon Maple Ale, it still left a lot to be desired, especially for fans of Rogue’s killer lineup of world-class beers.

Now, with their Pretzel, Raspberry, & Chocolate Ale, Rogue and Voodoo may have struck a balance between novelty and drinkability.  With sweet raspberry and chocolate tones and a salty pretzel kick, this beer offers another unique taste, without the more overwhelming flavors of bacon, maple, or banana.  Pretzel, Raspberry & Chocolate Ale makes for an interesting mix of flavors, but it’s easier to savor the individual tastes, and the combination comes together in a pretty palatable way.  While it still might not be for everyone, this latest Rogue/Voodoo concoction will likely find lots of fans.
